Church School – Godly Play & Young Children in Worship

Special places have been created at Saint Andrews so that our children can experience worship in such a way that they can grow in their love and knowledge of God. Age 3-Grade 3 make use of our Godly Play room in the downstairs and Grade 3-Grade 7 have their own Godly Play room upstairs.

In Godly Play, we tell Bible stories to children to encourage them to enter into the stories and relate them to their personal experience. Godly Play is concerned with the spiritual development of each child, using sacred space, open wondering questions and the freedom to choose their own response activities

Your child selects the work to do as his/her personal response to the lesson: either using the story figures or with clay and other art materials. Even very young children can bring their daily life experiences to God by retelling the stories. In this way, their "play" in guided in a Godly way.  Some weeks we conclude our time together with a “Feast”, where our children serve each other, have fellowship and prayer before leaving.

Safety – One of our priorities is to make sure each child is well cared for and safe.  In compliance with our “Leading With Care” policy, (http://www.presbyterian.ca/webfm_send/517) church school teachers and other volunteers must complete a Police Security Check. We also require at least two adults be in the classroom when children are present.  In addition, our class size necessitates we pay special attention to a few details concerning arrival and dismissal policies to ensure children’s safety and parental piece of mind.

Arrival and Dismissal – All youth begin the hour in worship going to their class with their teacher at approximately 11:15, right after the children’s story.  Young children in the Nursery and up to grade 2 should be picked up by a parent or other authorized person, promptly at the close of worship.

Church School for Grade 8-12                                                                                 On the first Sunday of each month during the school year the Grade 8-12 youth meet in the Upper Room for study, conversation and planning for Service.
